In Richburg, South Carolina, the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety is conducting controlled burns on test houses to study wildfire resilience. At a 100-acre facility featuring a six-story wall of 105 fans, researchers "crash test" structures to observe how wind-whipped flames penetrate windows and eaves.
