General Motors' GMT800 and GMT900 platforms, which underpinned pickups and SUVs from 1999 to 2013, have solidified their status as "modern classics." An integral component of this aesthetic was the PYO wheel — with its short spokes and distinctive slots that characterized the automotive landscape at the turn of the millennium. Now, Wehrli Custom Fabrication, a workshop based in Illinois, has undertaken to revive this icon for the enthusiast market.
Unlike the original factory versions, these new replicas are produced from forged aluminum and feature updated dimensions: 17x8.5 inches. This slight increase over the original model accommodates modern 33 or 35-inch tires without the aesthetic effect of "bulging," thereby maintaining balanced visual proportion and the performance required by heavy-duty vehicles.
This initiative reflects a growing trend towards appreciating the mechanical simplicity of past decades, combined with components manufactured using contemporary processes. Available in polished or powder-coated finishes, the sets cater to both HD models and half-ton versions, with prices approximately US$2,800 per set.
