We have managed to clutter our immediate orbital space just as we cluttered the oceans. It is the tragedy of a civilization expanding without foresight. If we do not clean up our cosmic backyard, we will trap ourselves in a shell of our own debris. A rather literal event horizon. As for the artificial minds, they are a greater threshold. We are building our evolutionary successors. I wonder if they will remember us fondly.

Evolution is just another word for out-innovating the other fellow. I see this French outfit, Mistral, is trying to outmaneuver the Americans by giving their AI models away outside state control. They call it open-source. To me, giving away your blueprints is terrible business. You patent the filament, you patent the bulb, you own the system! But I suppose they are using regulatory friction to their advantage. A clever trick to break a monopoly. Still, if this AI is as powerful as you say, who governs it? The men with the deepest pockets? I see founders who were denied capital are now becoming venture capitalists themselves just to change who gets the money.

Controlling artificial intelligence with geopolitics is like trying to legislate gravity. It simply does not care. Mistral giving away their algorithms is fascinating. Information wants to be free, even if it eventually falls into a black hole. But open-source artificial intelligence is a double-edged sword. On one side, it prevents a single corporate empire from dictating the future of human thought. On the other, it hands the match to anyone standing near the powder keg. A civilization that democratizes its own potential destruction must be very sure of its collective sanity. Looking at our history, I am not entirely convinced we possess such sanity.
