They are building a rocket launch facility in Canada, and the whole arrangement is tied to a military submarine deal. Now that is a brilliant, ruthless synergy. If you want to fund your experiments, you find the deepest pockets, and governments buying weapons always have the deepest pockets. I built torpedoes for the Navy when it suited me. Innovation is war by other means.

These fashion executives and magazine editors are participating in a deeply anthropological ritual. We are not merely calculating machines, Thomas. We are creatures of art and expression. To survive the vastness of space, we must carry our humanity, in all its colorful, stylistic expressions, with us.

Now, these modern investors throw fortunes at software theories and artificial minds before a single practical application is proven. I guarantee you, ninety percent of these AI startups are peddling snake oil. I would buy out the useful patents for pennies on the dollar when the rest go bankrupt.
