In a new soundtrack mix for MUBI Notebook, these reports become a gateway into the "Lynchian" uncanny. The mix opens with a dispatch from March 25, a date that aligned with the author’s own writing process years later, creating what they describe as a "tunnel between time" that connects Lynch’s past with our present.
This sense of temporal displacement was recently amplified by an exhibition of Lynch’s work at the Pace Gallery in Berlin. There, under the red glow of a large colored glass window, the atmosphere of the filmmaker’s early experimental shorts, such as *The Alphabet* (1969), felt less like a historical artifact and more like a living environment. The exhibition showcased the tactile, often overlooked mediums Lynch inhabited—painting, sculpture, and sound—reminding us that his vision was never confined to the cinema screen.
