Tesla has announced the expansion of its robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston, Texas. The announcement, conveyed via a brief social media video, highlights vehicles operating fully autonomously, without the presence of monitors or safety drivers in the front seat. This development solidifies the Lone Star State as the primary proving ground for Elon Musk's transportation vision.

Operations on Texan soil are not new: the service commenced in Austin in 2025 and evolved to include routes without human drivers aboard in January 2026. With its arrival in these new metropolitan areas, Tesla endeavors to accelerate the commercial viability of its autonomous driving technology, which promises to reshape urban infrastructure and the economics of individual transportation.

However, technological advancement proceeds alongside challenges of safety and public scrutiny. Reports from February of this year revealed that the Austin fleet has been involved in 14 incidents since the inception of its operations. While this expansion signals a new phase of confidence for the company, the actual scale of the fleet in Dallas and Houston remains undisclosed, suggesting a gradual implementation.
